The Narembeen Town Team brought a main street activation project to life, creating a more welcoming and family-friendly shared space north of IGA. The project features a Mini Café Cubby for children to play and interact while parents enjoy a coffee nearby, alongside a vibrant road mural by artist Jerome Davenport that creates a safe and colourful connection between the Community Precinct, the café and the shared space. Designed with local meaning, the mural celebrates Narembeen’s farming identity, blue skies, sunsets, emu footprints and community spirit.
The Narembeen Town Team worked closely with the Shire of Narembeen, local sponsors and community members to transform an everyday main street space into a place for connection, play and community pride.
Key steps included:
- Listening to the community through a survey about activating the shared space north of IGA, with strong support for a place where parents could gather and children could play.
- Building local partnerships with the Shire of Narembeen, RAC Connecting Communities Fund, Church of Christ – Dorcas Clothing, Collgar Community Fund, Go Narembeen’s Cropping Program and local families.
- Creating the Mini Café Cubby, built by the Town Team and their husbands, with support from the Men’s Shed for construction and storage.
- Engaging artist Jerome Davenport to design and paint a vibrant road mural that helps create a safe, designated crossover between key community spaces.
- Celebrating local identity through mural elements representing wheat and farming, blue skies, sunsets, emu footprints and colours inspired by the Shire of Narembeen logo.
- Inviting community participation, with many locals helping bring the mural and wider project to life, creating a sense of belonging and shared ownership.
- Launching the project at the Narembeen CRC’s 30th Anniversary celebrations, bringing the community together to celebrate both the new activation and an important local milestone.
