Be Seen in Narembeen Mural

It was identified that the Telstra building in Narembeen would be the ideal location for an engaging mural. The team worked with the incredible Jerome Davenport Visual Artist to make the ‘Be Seen in Narembeen’ mural come to life, celebrating the local indigenous meaning of the town - ‘the place of female emus’.

The Narembeen Town Team brought the Main Street Festival and town centre activation projects to life through strong community collaboration, creative placemaking and local partnerships. In the lead-up to the festival, the team revitalised key spaces in the town centre, including renovating the historic Barlow’s Store frontage and installing the vibrant “Be Seen in Narembeen” mural on the Telstra building with artist Jerome Davenport. Supported by local organisations, funding partners and volunteers, the projects aimed to inspire community pride, encourage visitation and activate underused spaces.

Key steps included:

  • Identifying underutilised spaces in the town centre that could be refreshed and activated
  • Securing funding and support through partnerships with local organisations and the RAC Connecting Communities Fund
  • Engaging a professional artist to bring the mural vision to life
  • Coordinating approvals, planning and project management for the mural and storefront improvements
  • Bringing the community together through volunteer-led busy bees and festival activities
  • Launching the completed projects during the Main Street Festival to celebrate local creativity, history and connection
