Place Innovation Awards

Established in 2023, the Minster for Local Government’s Place Innovation Awards are designed to recognise and promote innovative place-related projects, policies and activities involving local governments in Western Australia.

The three award categories winners for 2026 are:

Metropolitan and Peel: City of Kalamunda - Wattlegrove Dog Park
Regional WA: Shire of Gnowangerup - Partnering Together: The Stirling Range Cultural and Tourism Precinct
Outstanding Achievement (State-wide): Shire of Christmas Island - Christmas Island Fisheries Management Place-Based Approach

The Awards are funded by Department of Local Government, Industry, Regulation and Safety and administered by Doing Co (formerly known as Town Team Movement).

The 2026 Festival of Doing was proudly presented by Lotterywest and Town Team Movement, and supported by DevelopmentWA, City of Canning, Optus, Western Australian Planning Commission, Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety, Main Roads WA, RAC and Government of Western Australia’s Road Safety Community Grants Program.

It was hosted in local venues and places throughout Bentley and St James in WA thanks to our collaboration and support from DevelopmentWA, City of Canning and the Bentley Town Team ‘Town 6102’.
