Walk, Skip, Hop Jump in the Park

To install footpath art, by artists Olive Cheng and designed by the local community, around Braithewaite Park on Beach Road to enhance community connections and promote pedestrian and child safety through traffic calming. Please see attached map for more information prepared by Olive.

The sidewalk streets in focus are predominantly those surrounding Braithewaite Park, Mount Hawthorn. Including (main focus on) a segment of Scarborough Beach road, and surrounding streets of Braithwaite Park including The Boulevarde, Berryman Street and Kalgoorlie St (only in the areas around the park).

Proposed art to be on the pedestrian sidewalk only.

1. Build local capability and capacity Olive is a local artist with drive to create art around our suburb and allow people to stop and linger and enjoy

2. Change attitudes and behaviours The bus stop is the key component of the art installation, though the various pathway art around the park are additional places to linger, especially with kids.are great

3. Enhance street environment Simple relaxing art that allows people seeing it to slow down

4. Trial a collaborative model: Olive's work with the kids at Mulberry Tree was awesome and well received.

Changes in attitudes/behaviour reflection Younger children around the Park have engaged nicely with the path art, that I have seen personally. Thankfully driver traffic around the general area off Scarborough Beach Road are usually very restrained. The art at the bus stop near the Park has been well received and a great improvement to a dull standard stop.
