Change in attitudes/behaviour reflection
Cyclists At a meeting with the School Principal in August 2025, it was noted that there has been a significant increase in families riding to school, demonstrating a positive shift in travel behaviour.
Drivers In the October 2024 survey, 17% of respondents reported witnessing impatient motorists mounting the kerb and driving on the footpath to avoid traffic congestion. Since the project was implemented, there have been no reports of this behaviour, indicating a reduction in unsafe driver actions. Families – Cyclists and Pedestrians At the community afternoon tea on 1 August 2025, approximately 300 students attended. Fifty students actively participated in painting “Look Both Ways” messages and large blue footprint stencils on the footpaths to guide safe walking practices. Since the activity, students have been observed looking both ways before crossing and walking on the designated paths. Their involvement has increased their sense of ownership, pride, and engagement in road safety. The Weekly Walking School Bus continues to operate successfully and provides an ongoing opportunity for families to engage in active travel. Active Travel Competitions Active Travel Drawing Competition: 30 students submitted entries highlighting their commitment to active travel. This enthusiasm and engagement suggest a positive shift in attitudes that may support the broader increase in families choosing active travel options. Residents The Safer Roads P&C group has also received emails from local residents (without children at the school) who expressed appreciation for the project. They noted improvements in road safety and asked about further traffic calming measures, reflecting wider community support and engagement.
