To research traffic behaviours on McKimmie Road (from the corner of Marmion Street) and the intersention at Carrington Street and Tamar Street to inform an Action Plan. The initiative will be carried out by the local community in Palmyra with coordination of local community groups and area business owners to increase road safety and promote active travel. Listed below are two of the key hot spots/high traffic areas where the community gathers in Palmyra:
McKimmie Road (from the corner of Marmion Street) where Misto Café and Panna Bakery are located - many people gather and also travel along this thoroughfare to and from Palmyra Primary School, after school care building/Geo Thompson Park and down towards Canning Highway (Zedz Hair and Beauty/ Il Sorriso)
Carrington Street and Tamar Street corner at Oushk Cafe/ bottleshop/pizza/fish and chip shop.
1. Build local capability and capacity Increased knowledge of Pally 6157 and Streets Alive. We increased the knowledge of Pally 6157 and how the community can collectively get involved in community projects
2. Change attitudes and behaviours Data on projects people in the community are interested in . From the survey, talking to people, social media and the community workshop we now have data on what projects people in community are interested in. Bicycle Road Safety skills Provided an opportunity for young people in our community to learn and practice bike and road safety skills and developed their competence and confidence.
