Slow Down our Town Mullalyup Shed Mural

The Mullalyup Road Safety Mural project exemplified the power of art in promoting road safety and creating visual landmarks that captivate motorists. Through careful planning, collaboration, and the skillful execution of talented artists, the project successfully achieved its objective of enhancing road safety and slowing down traffic in Mullalyup. The mural continues to serve as a reminder for drivers to be mindful and responsible while also adding aesthetic value to the town.
The primary objective of the Mullalyup Town Team was to enhance road safety by drawing attention to the town and encouraging drivers to reduce their speed. They aimed to achieve this through the creation of an entry statement into town, a large, eye-catching mural on the side of the Hay shed, utilising the visual appeal of art to captivate motorists and promote safer driving habits.

The Hay shed was identified as the ideal canvas due to its prominent location and visibility from the South Western Highway. The team engaged talented mural artists known for their ability to create visually stunning artwork.

Extensive research was conducted to gather insights on effective road safety messaging and imagery. The artists and Town Team worked together to develop a concept that would not only be visually appealing but also deliver a powerful road safety message of “Slow Down in our Town”. The chosen design incorporated vibrant colours, eye-catching elements, and a clear call to action, all aimed at encouraging drivers to slow down and be mindful of their surroundings.

Once the concept was finalised, the artists meticulously transformed the side of the Hay shed into a visual focal point. The process involved careful preparation of the surface, including cleaning and priming. Special weather-resistant paints were used to ensure the mural's longevity, considering the shed's exposure to the elements. The artists dedicated significant time and effort to ensure the mural would make a lasting impact and serve its purpose effectively.
