About the Initiative
The Rewilding & Reconnecting (R&R) Initiative (Northbridge Common Town Team) is all about creating vibrant green spaces that bring people and nature closer together. By rewilding verges across our neighbourhood, we’re making our streets cooler, calmer, and more connected.
From January to June 2025, R&R rewilded five verges along Brisbane Street, Chatsworth Road, and Lindsay Street. Together with local volunteers, we planted over 60 native plants and two trees, introduced street calming elements, and installed welcoming seating areas, spaces where neighbours can pause, recharge, and reconnect.
In June of 2025, Northbridge Common began phase 2 of the initiative which saw 5 verges on Lincoln Street near Highgate Primary School re-wilded, with 300 native plants, and bright traffic calming installations. This was done with financial support from the City of Vincent, and the Streets Alive grant program. Planting and bright seating was completed in May 2026.

Local residents turned out in force this morning for the Northbridge Common Verge rewilding project: re-establishing street verges as green, people friendly places.
What I love about this project that it brings people together for a common goal: to make our neighbourhoods more liveable.

For me personally, it was lovely to take one and half hours out of the Saturday routine to get your hands in the soil and chat
