Create an outdoor, public gallery to display the artwork of talented locals!
The outdoor public gallery came to life by transforming a blank or underused surface into a place to showcase local creativity. By using existing public spaces such as fencing, planter boxes or bollards, the Doing created an accessible way for local artists, students and makers to share their work with the community.
Key steps included:
- Identified a blank or underused public surface that could be improved through local art.
- Invited talented locals, such as artists, students or community creatives, to contribute artwork or installations.
- Chose a display method that suited the space, such as painting directly onto the surface or attaching artworks with simple materials.
- Used everyday public infrastructure, including fencing, planter boxes or bollards, as the gallery backdrop.
- Installed the artworks in a visible outdoor location where the wider community could enjoy them.
- Credited the artists through signage, QR codes or social media handles.
- Created a low-cost public gallery that added colour, interest and local identity to the area.
- Celebrated local talent while turning an ordinary space into a more engaging and creative place.
