PK Seed Bombs

New Town Team PK 6172 held their first “quick-win” activation, making seed bombs outside their local cafe one Saturday morning. Seedbombs are a way to inject beautiful native flowers to vacant verges, cracks in the pavement, or anywhere needing a pop of colour.

The seed bombs Doing came to life as a simple, hands-on way for the community to add colour, life and native plants to overlooked spaces. By turning wildflower seeds into small clay seed bombs, locals could easily take part in greening verges, empty garden beds, vacant lots and other places that needed a little more care.

Key steps included:

  • Identified seed bombs as a fun, low-cost way to encourage community greening and small-scale environmental action.
  • Used simple natural materials, including bentonite clay, native potting mix, native fertiliser and wildflower seeds.
  • Mixed the ingredients with water to create a mouldable consistency that could be rolled by hand.
  • Created small seed bombs that were easy for people of different ages and abilities to make.
  • Packaged the seed bombs into paper bags so participants could take them home or share them with others.
  • Encouraged locals to place the seed bombs in suitable spaces that needed a pop of colour and life.
  • Helped activate underused or forgotten spaces such as verges, empty garden beds, footpath cracks and vacant lots.
  • Created a simple activity that connected people with nature and encouraged care for local places.
