A youth-led placemaking project that empowered local young people to co-design, build and activate a temporary public space for the wider community.
Town Team Movement partnered with RAC, the Better Block Foundation and the Town of Mosman Park to deliver Australia's first Better Block project. Working with local young people aged 16–24, the project transformed an underutilised public space near the Alf Adams Pavilion through a youth-led placemaking process. Participants moved through ideation, co-design and co-creation stages, developing ideas, designing interventions and helping physically build and activate the space. The project demonstrated how young people can play a leading role in shaping public spaces while building stronger community connections and a sense of ownership
Engaged local young people through schools, universities and community networks; facilitated ideation and co-design workshops; supported participants to develop place-based solutions; coordinated community build days and placemaking installations; delivered a temporary Better Block demonstration; worked alongside local government, RAC and Better Block Foundation to activate the space.
