Partnering with the owners of the Hilltop Shopping Centre, the team activated a previously unused drainage space to make a nature play area. Located outside of popular Dunn and Walton, this space is now a popular spot for young visitors to play thanks to the support of City of Stirling and RAC Connecting Communities Fund.
- The Bend in the Road Town Team identified a blank, underused drainage space at Hilltop Shopping Centre and saw an opportunity to make it more meaningful and useful for the local community.
- Partnered with the owners of Hilltop Shopping Centre to explore how the space could be safely and creatively activated.
- Worked with City of Stirling, RAC Connecting Communities Fund, Dunn & Walton and Karrinyup Men’s Shed to bring the project to life.
- Transformed the unused space outside Dunn & Walton into a nature play area for young visitors, with a bench seat donated by Karrinyup Men’s Shed.
- Collaborated with Dunn & Walton to create a community mural on the wall, adding colour, creativity and a stronger sense of local ownership.
- Created a welcoming, family-friendly place where children can play and families can pause, connect and enjoy the shopping centre precinct.
