Erica Lane Art and Activations

The local community worked with Aboriginal elders and artists to transform an unsafe and unsightly lane into a space to gather, connect and celebrate. It has even hosted weddings! A feature of this project was the cross-cultural cooperation, community leadership and a supportive Council.
  • Identified an unsafe and underused laneway as an opportunity for community-led transformation through public art and placemaking
  • Brought together local residents, Aboriginal Elders, artists, and community organisations to co-design a space focused on gathering, connection, and cultural celebration
  • Secured Council support and approvals to enable the project to move forward collaboratively and safely
  • Engaged artists to develop and deliver murals and street art that reflected local stories, culture, and community identity
  • Coordinated planning, funding, materials, and project management to ensure the space was accessible, welcoming, and sustainable
  • Activated the laneway as a vibrant community destination that now supports social gatherings, celebrations, and even weddings, demonstrating the long-term impact of cross-cultural collaboration and community leadership
