To collaborate with the community to produce a street mural design and install other traffic calming features on Railway Ave., to address road safety concenrs and make the town more welcoming. The project pertains to Railway Avenue, which runs parallel to the busy Merredin-Nungarin Road that passes through our town. Railway Avenue runs alongside the busy Merredin-Nungarin Road, which passes through our town. We have a 24hour card fuel service on Railway Avenue that increases the traffic flow on our main street.
- Identified Railway Avenue in Nungarin as a key area requiring traffic calming and streetscape improvements due to increasing vehicle movement along the busy Merredin–Nungarin Road corridor and 24-hour fuel service access
- Collaborated with local residents and stakeholders to co-design a street mural concept that reflects community identity while improving visibility and creating a more welcoming main street environment
- Combined public art with additional traffic calming features to encourage safer driving behaviour and improve pedestrian awareness in the town centre
- Used community engagement and local participation to guide the project vision, strengthen ownership, and build support for the initiative
- Activated Railway Avenue through creative placemaking, transforming a functional traffic area into a safer and more visually inviting rural streetscape for locals and visitors alike
