The Dalyellup Big Chair Project was created to bring colour and fun to a quieter shopping area and community centre within the centre of Dalyellup. This oversized beach chair was created by the Dalyellup Seasons (Men’s) Shed and painted in bright rainbow ‘pride’ colours to make it fun and encourage locals and tourists to sit, gather, and connect. The Dalyellup Big Chair was launched at the 2022 Dalyellup Twilight Easter Street Party and is now a permanent feature for community and visitors, to sit, take photos and share online.
- Identified an underused shopping and community space in Dalyellup and developed a placemaking idea to activate it through public art and seating
- Partnered with the Dalyellup Seasons (Men’s) Shed to design and construct an oversized “big chair” as a practical and eye-catching community feature
- Applied a bright rainbow colour scheme to create a welcoming, playful installation that reflects inclusivity and draws attention to the space
- Coordinated installation and public launch through the 2022 Dalyellup Twilight Easter Street Party, embedding the project into a broader community celebration
- Positioned the Big Chair as a permanent interactive landmark to encourage sitting, gathering, photography, and social sharing, increasing foot traffic and community connection in the area
