CrossRoads

To trial a street calming solution over four months at Railway St crossing and install traffic calming features to increase pedestrain usage of crossing and ensure safety of children communting to school. The school is located on the corner of Eric and Railway Streets, Cottesloe with Eric St overpass bridge and roundabout very close. The local roads are congested at school drop off and pick up times. There is also a service road up to Wanslea Childcare centre, Solaris Cancer Care and Op Shop.

  • Built local capability and capacity through a four-month trial at the Railway St crossing in Cottesloe, involving parents, students, and school leadership (NCPS and P&C)
  • Partnered with Town of Cottesloe and Main Roads Western Australia to plan and approve temporary street calming measures
  • Enrolled approximately 50 volunteer hours to support pedestrian counts, surveys, and working bees
  • Delivered on-the-ground installations including planter boxes, bollards, bunting, banners, and safety messaging to enhance the street environment and improve visibility
  • Used parent surveys and ongoing communication to shift attitudes and increase awareness of road safety and congestion risks at school drop-off and pick-up
  • Trialled a collaborative street calming model aimed at improving pedestrian safety for children commuting near Eric and Railway Streets, where congestion and limited crossing safety were identified issues
