Chalked and Baked

Doing

Chalked and Baked

The newly formed Town Team prioritised ideas for the first project to deliver an activity that was simple to organise, low cost and high reward. ‘Chalk and Bake’ required volunteers to each bake a plate and facilitate a children’s chalk competition in the car park at Spinifex Hill Studio. The event was fun to organise, connected the community and even supported the art gallery with a larger turnover of customers.
  • Built local capability and momentum by selecting a simple, low-cost and easy-to-deliver first project that could be organised quickly by the newly formed Town Team using volunteer support and shared community contributions
  • Encouraged community participation by inviting volunteers to bake and help facilitate a children’s chalk drawing competition, creating an inclusive and family-friendly event that was fun, accessible and easy for people to join
  • Enhanced the local street and community environment by activating the Spinifex Hill Studio car park with creative play, food and social connection, transforming an everyday space into a vibrant community gathering place
  • Strengthened local partnerships and community connection by delivering an event that not only brought residents together, but also increased visitation and customer activity for the adjoining art gallery, demonstrating the value of small-scale community-led activation initiatives
