The Baysie Rollers revitalised the carpark outside 5 and 7 King William Street with vibrant public art, greenery and community seating, transforming an underused concrete space into a welcoming town centre destination. Featuring a large-scale mural by local artist Graeme Miles Richards, alongside planter boxes, trees and tables, the project created a greener, more social space that supports local cafes, encourages people to spend time in the area and enhances the Bayswater town centre experience.
- Developed the initial concept in 2021 and worked closely with the community, local businesses and DevelopmentWA through consultation across 2022 and early 2023 to shape the vision for the space.
- Partnered with local artist Graeme Miles Richards to design and deliver large-scale murals celebrating Bayswater’s identity, with mural works commencing in late 2022.
- Hosted a community painting day in February 2023, inviting residents and supporters to directly contribute to the artwork and build local ownership of the project.
- Collaborated with local organisation Respoke to create custom planter boxes and tables, which were installed alongside landscaping and native plantings in 2024 to transform the space into a greener, more welcoming destination.
- Adapted project plans when the proposed 3D ground mural could not proceed, redirecting funding into traffic calming initiatives and traffic management training to support future community activations.
- Finalised the mural works in mid-2025 and delivered the project through the support of funding partners including RAC WA, City of Bayswater and the Department of Communities, alongside contributions from local businesses and community organisations.
