A street tradition is a regular, repeated event, that fosters a sense of belonging, ownership and connection between neighbours. It could be an annual birthday party for your street, a Christmas BBQ, the anniversary of X, or the first Sunday of Y month each year!
Ingredients:
- Residents of your street
- An invitation to participate
- Food and drink is often a welcome addition
Method:
- An example: Residents of Bellingham Parade in Kwinana host an annual Easter Egg Hunt. Families donate chocolate eggs which are hidden along the verges and front gardens by teenage residents.
- The younger children hunt for the eggs whilst adults enjoy their BYO coffee and a good chat.
- Someone usually brings out a tray of hot cross buns for everyone to enjoy.
