Purpose & how to use: A short how-to for running a pop-up Soapbox Speakers event — a low-cost, easy way to bring public speaking and ideas back into the street. Use it when looking for a fresh, conversation-driven activation.
Who it's for: Town Teams and community organisers wanting to host a small, idea-focused event in a public space.
Key points: A Soapbox event runs for around one to one-and-a-half hours, with a sequence of short 1–5 minute speeches (occasionally up to 20–30 minutes) and quick changeovers — think TEDx meets traditional public speaking. The four steps are choose a venue, date and time; put a call out for speakers through your channels; promote the event; and brief speakers with an information pack including the schedule and rules. Equipment is minimal (a soap box or crate, a mic and stand, a small PA, leads and a camera), and the document includes a sample speaker information pack covering schedule, recording, payment and speaking guidelines.
